At Heath Windows and Doors, we know how important your home is to you. We make every effort to guide you through your buying journey so that you make the right choice of windows and doors for you and your home. On this page, we’ll explore the options open to you. When you choose home improvement products for your home, there are a lot of factors to take into account.
Your windows must be stylish and enhance your home. You and your family want to enjoy your new windows while you live there but you also need to know that you’ve made the right choice if you plan to sell your home in the future. Windows and doors can affect the saleability or value of your home when it’s put on the market.
The installation of double glazed windows and doors is one of the most effective ways to reduce heating costs in a home. Double-glazing also helps improve sound insulation, which is important for those who want peace of mind that their family members will not be disturbed by noise from outside.
All newly built buildings in the UK will include at least a C rating for double glazing, but this isn’t good enough. All of our windows are A-rated as standard. We wouldn’t want you to have anything less.
You can reasonably expect your double-glazed windows to last as much as twenty years. There are some that have lasted even longer than that. That’s a long time so, it’s well worth splashing out on these durable windows.
Poorly fitted windows won’t last half as long, which is why it’s important to choose a reputable double glazing installer.
Every type of window in both aluminium and uPVC is available with a double glazed option. In Cardiff the most popular style is casement windows, closely followed by sash windows due to the large number of period homes.
uPVC windows are more popular than aluminium, partly due to the lower cost and partly because there are more options for styling. If you like the traditional moulded style then uPVC windows will probably a better option for you. Aluminium tends to be the preferred option for architects but they are usually designing modern homes.
At Heath Windows and Doors Cardiff, we have no preference so will give you unbiased advice that’s right for you and your home.
Whichever material you choose, your windows and doors will be of the highest quality, made to measure, energy efficient and virtually maintenance free. All of our double glazed windows and patio doors carry at least a 10 year guarantee. uPVC Windows. Aluminium Windows.
Casement windows are the type of window you mostly see when you walk down most streets. It’s a simple window design that will work on any property. It is the most popular and widely used style of double glazed window in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea, and most certainly South East Wales.
Our uPVC casement windows can be either top-hung opening or side-hung opening to suit your requirements, providing excellent ventilation and security. You can choose a flush finish, clean-cut chamfered beading or a more decorative sculpted ovolo finish for your new windows. Your choice will be a combination of what works best for the house, your personal taste and your budget.
Our sliding sash windows boast an array of features to ensure you get the very best in double glazed windows in Cardiff. Sash windows are a perfect choice for homes of all styles. They look stunning in a period home and add a unique character to contemporary homes. Our sash windows blend the traditional design with modern materials to offer a reliable solution that stands the test of time.
While flush windows can look good on any style of property, they are proving particularly popular for traditional homes because they mimic the look of traditional wood very well. Flush window profiles offer an alternative to wooden windows and doors that is sympathetic to older styles but with the benefits of modern technology.
This sophisticated window style is becoming increasingly popular in Cardiff and Surrounding areas. Tilt and Turn Windows combine the benefits of a large area of glass with ease of cleaning and excellent ventilation. The innovative tilt-and-turn mechanism enables the window to be opened inwards from the top for effective ventilation or from the side for safe and easy cleaning from within your home.

In Cardiff, Newport, Swansea, and throughout South Wales, the most popular colour for windows is white. Both our uPVC and Aluminium double glazing products are available in a variety of colours and the best colour for you very much depends on the style of your house. Naturally coloured windows cost a little more but well worth it as they transform a home.
To be honest we’ve never installed red windows but all of the other colours look fabulous. Anthracite is the second most popular colour but Chartwell Green is coming up a close third lately.
If your home contains areas where you need privacy such as bathrooms and cloakroom, we have a wide range of privacy glass options. Also known as obscure glass, privacy glass allows light in while blurring outlines. In the daytime, this glass gives almost complete privacy but in the evening when the lights are on, it may show more outline, depending on which glass you choose.
You may wish to consider this if you live on a busy street where passers-by tend to look in. Obscure glass on the lower windows may work well.
Most of our customers in Cardiff, Swansea and Newport choose coloured glass decorations purely because they like the look but these can also be used for privacy.
All of our window ranges have matching doors. If you are replacing your windows, you may also be considering replacing patio doors or even opening up to the garden with patio doors. All of our casement windows have a range of patio doors and back doors that match the windows. You are not under any pressure to replace everything at once. You may wish to spread the budget by replacing the windows now and the doors later. Some of our customers split the budget by replacing front windows followed by back windows later. It’s all up to you. We are here to help you achieve your dreams in the way that is best for you.
If your home is a listed building or you live in a conservation area, you may find that you are unable to replace old timber windows with new uPVC or aluminium. If it’s a conservation area, it’s worth checking to see if you can have the new flush window design. Some conservation areas are now accepting these as they look so authentic. If you really must live with your old draughty windows, secondary glazing may solve your problem. The window panes sit inside your window sill area to provide an extra layer of insulation from the cold.
It would be hard to say whether one was better than the other. The debate between double or triple glazing is both simple and complex. The physical difference simply comes down to two panes of glass versus three, but there are many other differences that should be considered as well before making a decision on which one will benefit you more. While you may benefit slightly from increased noise insulation and energy performance, do you need that so much more than double glazing can provide?
Does your home need the absolute maximum in energy efficiency and comfort? If so, then triple glazing may be worth it.
As you would expect with any product there is always a cost implication. Triple-glazed windows are more expensive than double-glazed windows because the manufacturing and materials cost is higher. Triple glazing also slightly reduces the light that comes through the window. You may also see slight distortion. Overall, triple glazing costs more but if you do suffer from extreme cold or noise nuisance then the extra cost may be justified.
It is difficult to put an exact price on a window because the range of prices for both aluminium and uPVC windows are diverse. You can buy cheaper uPVC windows from DIY stores but if you want your windows and doors to last a long time and be energy-efficient, it is worth paying a bit more. If you don’t want to take risks with installation and quality, it is always worth paying a bit more for guaranteed work and products.
The cost of your made to measure replacement windows will depend on several factors. The quality of your new windows certainly has an effect on the price, both in the materials used, the fixings and the installation. The difficulty for you as the customer is knowing the difference. Windows look the same when they are fitted. It’s only in time that you start to see windows dropping because the hinges aren’t sturdy enough or frames bowing because the aluminium or steel inside the frame is not strong enough.
The fitting of your windows can also make a difference. Your windows need to move smoothly and this relies on level fitting. Unfortunately, the industry is known for sub-contractors who value speed over quality. That’s the reason that as a premier window supplier we fully employ our installation engineers. They know that quality takes precedence and will take their time to ensure the perfect installation. In addition, all of our windows, doors and conservatories carry at least a 10-year guarantee for your peace of mind.
At Heath Cardiff we supply replacement windows that are custom designed to fit your property, making them efficient as well as looking stylish.
