Inward Opening French Doors

You can make the most of patio space by choosing inward-opening french doors, or you can maximise your room’s interior with an outward opening mechanism. We know how stunning your French doors will look in your homes because we’ve installed so many in Cardiff, Newport, Penarth and surrounding areas. We know that you will want to keep your doors looking brand new for years to come, so we also fit our doors with convenient, easy-to-clean internal rebates, so you know your door will look its best with the minimum of effort.

French doors can be a more practical choice if the existing structure is already set up for it. Changing to a wider type of opening, such as bi-folding doors, can mean a change to the structure requiring additional support in the form of a wider lintel. Bi-fold doors or sliding doors could be more practical if you have limited space for the swing of the doors. We are happy to advise on whether patio doors, sliding doors or bi-folds would be a better choice for you.

French Doors to Replace Sliding Doors

uPVC French doors are often used to replace old sliding doors, which means using doors that are narrower than the original opening. This is usually achieved by using fixed side panels which can be full length or half-height with the addition of a small wall and window sill. Using full-length glass panels means that you can minimise the structural work and keep the same open view. If the opening is wide, maybe bifold doors would be better for you. Bifold doors have the added benefit of folding back against the wall, leaving a clear open space for you to enjoy maximum airflow on warm days.

French Doors to Replace Windows

If you have decided to replace your windows with something newer and more stylish that lets in more light, french doors are usually the obvious choice as they can often be installed in the same width without too much building work. It’s only necessary to take out the bricks below the window which are not supporting the structure.

You will need to bear in mind that your floor may be affected because the depth of doors is less than a brick wall, but we can usually deal with that by filling the space with a uPVC or wood infill. There are several solutions to this. We’ll tell you how we make your finished french doors look great when we measure up for you.

Bifold Doors or French Doors?

French and bi-fold doors are the two most common styles of UPVC patio doors, but which style is for you? Take a look at the pros and cons of each, which will hopefully help with the decision-making!

All patio doors have the potential to add value to your home or make it more appealing to would-be buyers. Full-length glass doors are an improvement over windows or old-style sliding doors, especially if they open up the view or let more light in. It isn’t so much that one is better than the other. It’s more that they are each better suited to particular spaces. Your choice may also depend on price and convenience.

Whichever patio door style you choose, our superb quality double glazing systems plus first-class fitting ensure that your doors will be thermally efficient, secure, durable, and low maintenance.
